How is pussycat dolls translated? Group Pussycat Dolls

Success came to the musical group in 2005 with their first album PCD, which debuted at number five in the US, releasing three successful singles "Don"t Cha", "Buttons" and "Stickwitu"; the latter song earned the group a Grammy nomination. After the departure of Carmit Bachar in March 2008, the group continued as a quintet, and in September of that year they released their second album Doll Domination, releasing singles such as "When I Grow Up", "I Hate This Part" and "Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)."

During the group's rise to fame, the group was criticized for their overtly sexual image and explicit dance moves. The band has also been accused of placing too much emphasis on lead singer Nicole Scherzinger, who sings all lead vocals in the band. The band took a break in late 2009/early 2010 to record their third album and present their third world tour. It has since been confirmed that Jessica Sutta, Kimberly Wyatt, Ashley Roberts and Melody Thornton have all left the group to pursue their own solo careers. In May 2010, it was announced that Scherzinger would remain the lead singer of the group, with new members Vanessa Curry, Curington Payne, Rino Nakason-Razalan and Jamie Lee Ruiz, who would create a new studio album in 2010 and go on a world tour. In early December 2010, it was reported that Nicole Scherzinger had also left the group, stating: "We've had our time. Some girls left the group, but until a certain time it was not in my power. I didn’t want to be in a group with other girls - it wasn’t a family anymore.”

Career as a dance troupe

Comic dances: 1995-2003

Antin began exploring the idea of a modern burlesque troupe in 1990 with Christina Applegate and Carla Cama. The dance troupe's first performance was in 1995. There were many members during this period, since their debut in 1995, they performed with numerous guest vocalists, performing a repertoire of 1950s and 1960s standard pop music, dressed in lingerie or retro pin-up costumes. They performed Thursday nights at the Los Angeles nightclub The Viper Room from 1995 to 2001.

The troupe received widespread press coverage in June 1999 when a magazine Playboy The Pussycat Dolls appeared, with 7 then-naked members (Casey Campbell, Kiva Dawson, Antonietta Macri, Erica Breckels, Katie Bergold, Erica Gadis and Lindsay Allen). Three years later, the Dolls moved to The Roxy. The group became internationally popular and were on magazine covers and made guest appearances on MTV and VH1. advertising campaigns and films. Some of the Pussycat Dolls appeared in the 2003 film Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, dancing to the "Theme from the Pink Panther." They were also featured in Pink's "Trouble" video. Along with Christina Applegate, Christina Aguilera and Carmen Electra (who was a featured performer at many of the performances), the troupe appeared in the magazine Maxim during a photo shoot in 2002, from which public interest in them grew.

Following their increased popularity, music producers Jimmy Iovine and Ron Fair helped the group transform into a franchise. The former dance troupe turned into a pop recording group and became employees of Iovine's Interscope Records label. The only cast members who remained after the recasting process were Robyn Antin (who took on creative, executive and management roles), Carmit Bachar, Siah Batten, Casey Campbell, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta and Kimberly Wyatt. Later in 2003, Scherzinger, Kaya Jones and Melody Thornton were selected as vocalists after auditions to finally form into a musical group.

When Carmen Electra was asked why she was not included in the new lineup of the group, she replied: “I have been a part of [The Dolls] for over 2 years and have been to every one of their shows […] but with financial point sight, I could not become part of their new musical project […] It was a sacrifice that I could not make.

Performances in the hall: 2005-present

In parallel with the Pussycat Dolls' franchise as a recording group, April 2005 saw the start of a long-running, permanent live show at the "Pussycat Dolls Lounge" adjacent to the Pure Nightclub at Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip. This show featured "cast members" who continued the burlesque style show that began in Los Angeles in 1995.

As a result, one of the members of the Los Angeles dance troupe, Rachel Sterling, moved to the Las Vegas show. The lineup included vocalists Jamie Preston, Hayley Zelniker, Amanda Novak, Colby Amanda and Alicia. Former Dolls included Meredith, Jessica Leigh, Rachel Sterling, Laurel, Laura Diane, Cindy, Ashley Gates, Bridget Nicole, Jennifer Afrnty, Sheila Joy and Jamie Ruiz from .

In February 2007, Caesars Palace opened the Pussycat Dolls Casino right inside the Pussycat Dolls Hall. The decor and outfits for the croupiers, waitresses and dancers were made in the “Dolls style”. The Dolls moved back to Los Angeles to the Viper Room in November 2008 for regular Friday and Saturday performances at the "Pussycat Dolls Lounge".

Music career

2003-2005: Formation

In 2003 Scherzinger, winner Popstars, a former member of Eden's Crush, became the main vocalist of the group. That same year, vocalists Thornton and Jones were selected to add vocal power to the group. The group's original musical lineup consisted of Scherzinger, Thornton, Jones, Antin, Bachar, Batten, Campbell, Wyatt, Roberts and the Sutts. The group appeared on two soundtracks in the 2004 films Shark Tale And let's Dance. The first single of the newly formed group was "Sway" from let's Dance with a clip inspired by the film.

In 2004, right before their debut, Batten and Campbell left the group to pursue their solo dance careers. Jones later left the group in 2005 after recording their first album to pursue a career as a model and singer. Antin remained with the group as founder, manager and business partner for Interscope. The group was launched as a sextet at the very beginning, consisting of Scherzinger, Thornton, Bachar, Sutta, Roberts and Wyatt.

2005-2008: First album PCD and commercial success

On September 13, 2005 they released their debut album PCD, which debuted at number five on the Billboard 200. Their first single "Don"t Cha" was successful, reaching number one in numerous countries including the UK, Australia and Canada and peaking at number two in Billboard Hot 100. The song was originally sung by Tori Alamaz and featured rapper Busta Rhymes. The ballad "Stickwitu" was a top 5 hit in the US, and their second number one single in the UK. She was later nominated for a Grammy in the category "Best Pop Duo or Group Performance". "Beep" featuring will.i.am was less successful, but reached number one in Belgium and New Zealand. “Buttons” (with rapper Snoop Dogg reached third line in the UK Singles Chart and the USA. The next single “I Don"t Need a Man” was not so successful, although it reached the top 10 in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and the UK. Sixth The band's single was "Wait a Minute" featuring Timbaland, became a top 40 single in the U.S. The band was chosen to perform at ABC's NBA kickoff preview The Pussycat Dolls were the first to open for the Black Eyed Peas Honda Civic Tour at North America. In early 2007 they embarked on a North American tour in support of Back to Basics Tour Christina Aguilera, along with Danity Kane and NLT. In November 2006, the Pussycat Dolls embarked on the PCD World Tour with Rihanna as the opening act on the England leg. The Pussycat Dolls performed at the Manchester Evening News Arena in a concert that was recorded and later released through MSN Music.

2008: First line-up change

In 2007, Asia Nitollano was formally the 7th member of the group after winning the reality show , giving her the opportunity to sing on the next album and tour. There were rumors that the Dolls would record a version of "Lady Marmalade", which Nitollano sang during the show's finale. This has not been confirmed by the band or manager. Nitollano performed with the Dolls for the first time during the show's finale, singing their number one hit "Don't Cha". She later performed with them again at The CW Upfronts Party. Her place in the group was in question due to that she was only seen in the band twice, cemented by her barely appearing during the band's Live Earth appearances.

2008-2009: Era Doll Domination

While the Pussycat Dolls were on hiatus between recording two albums, Scherzinger was working on her debut album, entitled Her Name is Nicole. She released 4 singles, none of which compared to the success of those released by “Dolls”. The album was scheduled for release at the end of 2007, and then rescheduled for October 2008, but the project was postponed until the end of 2008, while some songs appeared on the band's second album Doll Domination. Just prior to the album's release, longtime band member Carmit Bachar announced she was leaving the group to pursue a solo career. The band performed for the first time since their hiatus as a quintet for US troops in Kuwait for Operation Myspace.

The group returned to the music scene on May 27, 2008 with a new single, "When I Grow Up", which peaked at number 9 in the U.S. Hot 100 and first in Billboard Hot Dance Club Play. The song reached the top of some European charts and became a top 10 hit worldwide. The follow-up single, "Whatcha Think About That" with Missy Elliott, performed poorly on the US charts, but reached the top 20 in several other countries, including the UK with a limited release.

After a short delay and two singles, Doll Domination was finally released as a standard and deluxe edition. The last disc features a solo song from each girl. The album debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200, with 79,000 copies sold in its first week, beating their debut album by one position on the chart, but selling 20,000 fewer copies. It only spent 7 weeks in the top 100, compared to their debut album which stayed in the top 100 for about one year. In January 2009, he re-entered the top 100 after several more successful singles. The album in its original form produced two other singles: the global top 20 hit "I Hate This Part" and the number one club song "Bottle Pop", which only received a limited release in the US and Oceania. In January 2009 they went on a second world tour Doll Domination Tour, to support the Doll Domination album. Lady Gaga opened for them in Europe and Australia, and Ne-Yo supported the Pussycat Dolls on the England leg. In mid-2009, they opened for Britney Spears' tour on its first North American leg.

In April 2009, Scherzinger confirmed to the magazine Billboard that the album will be re-released to give more people a chance to hear their music. In Europe, the album was re-released with three or four new songs. In Australia, a collection called Doll Domination 2.0 was released with 6 songs from the original version plus 4 new songs, while in England 6 songs were released under the name Doll Domination: The Mini Collection, released April 27, 2009 with 4 original versions plus a remix and a new song. In August 2009 the album was re-formed again, this time as Doll Domination 3.0 to include all previous bonus songs on one CD with the original album. Its release was limited to Europe and the UK, where all of the group's singles reached the top 20. The remade versions produced 2 new singles: the global hit "Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)" (was the soundtrack to the film Slumdog Millionaire) and the Europop remix of "Hush Hush" (retitled "Hush Hush; Hush Hush"), which reached the top 20 internationally. Due to the overemphasis on Scherzinger in the release of these two singles, there were several emotional outbursts in the media, including one from Thornton at one of the band's tour dates.

2009-2010: Break and second line-up change

Following repeated rumors in the press and increased tension within the band, their founder and manager Robin Antin broke her silence on the official Twitter page to say that the band is not breaking up. She made it clear: “The Pussycat Dolls are NOT breaking up…. AND IF even so, you will hear this from ME first, NO RUMORS...Album #3 is already being prepared!” Thornton further clarified the situation on MTV: “The Pussycat Dolls are on vacation at the moment. In fact, this break is very necessary. It’s like if you’re with your sisters 24 hours a day and you need to take your shower.” Thornton said the Dolls will get back together at the end.

After this, Wyatt was very active in terms of describing the factual reality of the group and gave a large number of series of interviews about the status of the pupae. In October 2009 she said Daily Star, that her “role in the group was work until the end of the working day, and after that everyone has their own personal life.” She went on to explain that the group was put together without considering each individual's personalities, then she saw Scherzinger as more of a business partner than a friend. These comments showed the group's attitude that no matter who returned to the group or is part of it, it will hold on. On October 12, she said. In December, Wyatt spoke about the group again with Digital Spy. She confirmed early reports that she was in the recording studio working on her own electronic debut album. She radically opened up, saying that she doesn’t know what exactly is happening with the group’s third album, since she was not its driving force. It was also mentioned that "fans will see new faces." She described her role in the group as indispensable, saying that "she will always be associated with whether it concerns choreography or creative direction."

This, among many other interviews and individual appearances by the band members, led to rumors in the press that the band was about to break up due to strained relations with lead singer Scherzinger. However, Antin responded to this very quickly, stating:

The Pussycat Dolls are very resilient; in fact, there is no truth in the quiet statements. Nicole and Dolls have ALWAYS been close. Nicole is and always will be a strong creative force in the group and I love the way we collaborate.

Finally, on January 29, 2010, the truth about the group was destined to emerge. It started with Jessica Satta admitting E!Online that she was kicked out of the group after suffering a broken rib during the band's tour. The news put her in a difficult financial situation, and in an instant she almost became homeless. As in Wyatt's earlier interviews, Satta hinted at the size of Scherzinger's benefits. When the band was on tour with Britney Spears, other dolls had to undergo constant drug tests, and Scherzinger was an exception. According to Satta, Scherzinger was more involved than just singing lead vocals; she apparently controlled the number of shots of each doll in the video as they were filmed. Satta told the magazine In Style that although being a doll is a pleasant experience even after seven years, she still doesn't want to become famous as a backup dancer.

Less than a month later, on February 26, Wyatt confirmed what was expected: she had also left the group and officially confessed the news to the magazine Loaded. She left the group because she did not like the position in the group: “I wish it was different because I love what I do on stage. I love being a doll, but with the changes happening behind the scenes, I just can't take it anymore... when I go on stage, I know it's my job and I give it 100%. I feel like I can connect with anyone when working together - because it's just work, nothing more!” One day later, Ashley Roberts also announced her departure from the group via the website. In a simple message, she said: “Yes, I left the Pussycat Dolls..I love you all so much!!! I really appreciate your love and support. It was an amazing trip, I learned so much!” Meanwhile, Wyatt later confirmed that all of the Dolls had left the group, including Thornton.

2010-present: New lineup and third studio album

Antin appeared on the show Wendy Williams to promote their new fitness DVD. Williams took the opportunity to ask Antin about the rumors surrounding the band's suspicious breakup. Antin responded this way: “They don’t fall apart. In fact, we are preparing to make a new group." She confirmed that Scherzinger was staying. However, Antin stated that she will be adding new faces and some of the current members will leave to do solo projects. She continued: “Women’s empowerment bullshit. Inside, every woman is a lovely doll waiting to be released. There are millions of women around the world who want to know what it is. I want to show it through new faces."

Reaffirming the band's position, Scherzinger told MTV on March 4 that her position with the band is a secret, although it will consist of a new lineup, and hopes that they will release a new album sometime by the end of 2010. She also said that she was going to a recording studio. But when asked about the nature of the recordings, she wasn't sure if they would be for her own album or the third dolls album, but the latter will definitely be released for fans. Speaking about music, she said: "I don't know if I'm going to release [new music] under my own name or if it will be perfect for the Dolls. It doesn't matter. I just want to make great music for the fans. The new Dolls album will be, though." pop style, but with more rock and soul sounds."

The new lineup was revealed on May 22, 2010 consisting of Scherzinger as the main vocalist and 4 other girls: former Laker Girl, Vanessa Curry; So You Think You Can Dance finalists Kerington Payne; former Harajuku Girls member Rino Nakasone and former Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious member Jamie Ruiz.

Projects

TV episodes

In 2008, it was reported that Antin and La Senza Corporation of Canada had produced a line of Burlesque/Pussycat Dolls-themed lingerie called "Shhh...by Robin Antin". December 15, 2009 Robin Antin released DVD Robin Antin's Pussycat Dolls Workout with dancers from the Pussycat Doll Hall, Christina Sayers (member of the group Girlicious) and Nicole Scherzinger.

Other businesses

In 2007, Interscope formed London-based spin-off group Paradiso Girls through an open audition. The initial lineup of the group consisted of main singer Aria Cascaval and Lauren Bennett, rapper Cher May Amor and DJ Kelly Vecketta. Antin and Ron Fair selected the finalist Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search For the Next Doll Chelsea Cork joined as the main vocalists, thus making the final lineup of the group. The group made their international debut with the release of their first international single and debut album.

In early February 2008, as part of a TV show, The CW sponsored Stardoll.com, a website with virtual dolls, to include images of PCD members for interactive dressing in clothes with the PCD logo. This site is intended for girls from 7 to 17 years old. The CW has confirmed that the show will not have a third season due to low ratings.

The Pussycat Dolls re-recorded "Don't Cha" in Simlish for inclusion on computer game The Sims 2: Pets. They also appeared as heroines in Asphalt: Urban GT 2 in November 2006.

Controversies

In 2006, the group got into trouble in Kuala Lumpur with the administration due to explicit sexual dances. Performance, part of them PCD World Tour, was poorly received in Muslim countries, which frowned upon the group's "incredible outfits" and "sexually suggestive moves on stage". Absolute Entertainment, the company responsible for bringing the group to Malaysia, was fined $3,000 for the incident.

Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly's Margot Watson attacked the group for placing too much emphasis on Scherzinger as the lead singer. Watson said, "There are two types of girl groups: those that are established as superstars (The Supremes, Destiny's Child) and those that are made up of charismatic individuals with limited talent (Spice Girls, TLC). The Pussycat Dolls are not one of them." neither one nor the other - they are a brand, not a group. Following the results of the multi-platinum PCD in 2005, it turns out that the main Doll Nicole Scherzinger is in everyone's attention, and she is not Beyoncé. As for the others, well... do you know them by name? You Do you even know how many there are?”

Sometimes
I feel I\"ve got to run away
I\"ve got to get away
From the pain
You drove into the heart of me
The love we share
Seems to go nowhere
I think I\"ve lost my light
For I toss and turn
I can\"t sleep at night

Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I run from you

Take my tears
And thats not nearly all

Tainted love
Tainted love

Now I know I\"ve got to run away
I\"ve got to get away
You don\"t really want anymore from me
To do things right
You need someone to hold you tight
And you\"ll think love is to pray
But I\"m sorry I don\"t pray that way

Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I run from you
This tainted love you\"ve given
Give you all a girl could give you
Take my tears
And thats not nearly all

Tainted love
Tainted love

Don\"t touch me please
I can't stand it when you tease
I love you though you hurt me so
But I\"m going to pack my things and go

Tainted love (Oh)
Tainted love (Tainted love)
Tainted love (Tainted love)
Tainted love
Tainted love!

Baby, baby
Baby, don\"t leave me
Ooh, please don\"t leave me
All by myself
I\"ve got this burning
Yearning, yearning
Feeling inside me
Ooh, deep inside me
And it hurts so bad
You came into my heart
So tenderly
With a burning love
That stings like a bee
And now that I surrender
So helplessley
You Now Wanna Leave
Ooh, you want to meet me

Baby, baby
Where did our love go?
Ooh there\"s a burning...

Tainted Love

Sometimes,
I feel like I need to run away
I need to hide
From pain
Which you left in my heart.
Our love,
It seems to lead to nowhere.
And there's no more light in my life
I don't know peace
And I don't sleep at night.

And now I'll run away from you
And from your vicious love.

Take my tears
But that is not all.

Tainted Love,
Tainted Love.

Now I know that I need to run away
I need to hide from you.
You don't want anymore
So that I can save this relationship
You need someone to hold you tight.
You think that loving means begging.
Sorry, but I won't do this.

Once upon a time I ran to you (came running)
And now I'll run away from you
And from your vicious love.
I gave you everything a girl can give
Take my tears
But that is not all.

Tainted Love,
Tainted Love.

Don't touch me please.
I can't stand it when you tease me.
I love you even though you hurt me so much
And now I'll pack my things and leave.

Tainted Love.

Vicious love (Vicious love).
Tainted Love.
Tainted Love!

Baby, baby
Do not leave me,
Please do not Leave Me
All alone.
Everything is burning inside me,
Burns with the flame of desire
Somewhere deep
Yes, deep inside
And it even hurts.
You entered gently
Into my heart
Inflaming him with love,
Which stings like a bee.
And now that I'm helpless
Submitting to you
Do you want to go…
You want to please me...

Baby, baby
Where did our love go?
Everything is on fire...

The Pussycat Dolls (translated from English as “dolls”) are a pop-R&B vocal and dance group from the United States of America. Formed in 1995 as a burlesque dance team by choreographer Robin Antin. Robin conceived this project back in 1990. The group's debut performance took place in 1995. The girls, in retro pin-up outfits, danced once a week at a nightlife venue in Los Angeles from 1995 to 2001. The team attracted significant attention when Playboy published semi-nude photos of the Pussycat Dolls in 1999. The girls gained international popularity. Together with Christina Applegate, Christina Aguilera and Carmen Electra, the team was featured in Maxim in 2002, attracting even more public interest.

Seeing the increasing success of the group, the musical producers decided to turn this dance project into a pop team. The girls signed a contract with a recording company. As a result of the selection, only seven participants were left in the team, among them, in fact, Robin Antin was listed as the creative director. And in 2003, Nicole Scherzinger, Kaya Jones and Melody Thornton were accepted into the lineup under the guise of vocalists, so that the “dolls” would in fact transform into a musical group. Carmen Electra refused to continue working in the project precisely because of this vocal and musical modification. Along with the musical group The Pussycat Dolls, the dance team of those girls who have participated in the project since 1995 continued their work. They started playing shows in Los Angeles again.

And in The Pussycat Dolls in 2003, Nicole Scherzinger was chosen as the main vocalist, with Kaya and Melody performing as her accompaniment. In 2004, the team released two tracks for film projects - the animated "Shark Tale" and the melodrama "Let's Dance." In 2005, Kaya Jones left the team after recording the team's debut album. Thus, initially the “dolls” began to position themselves as a sextet. And in 2005, the team’s premiere album was published, which occupied an honorable fifth position on the Billboard 200. The first composition from the girls’ debut disc, “Don’t Cha,” brought them luck, taking the place of the chart leader in many countries. Afterwards, the group presented a series successful compositions, also featured on the first disc, including their famous signature “Buttons”, sung together with rapper Snoop Dogg, which took third place in the British charts. An extremely effective video was shot for the song, which was able to show the uniqueness of this project, which consisted in the ability to harmoniously combine high-quality expressive vocals with equally dynamic strip dance, which, for all its frankness, does not look vulgar, but highly artistic.

In 2007, the seventh member, Asia Nitollano, joined the team, and this allowed her to be present in the work on the recording of the second record of the “dolls” and their tours. In May 2008, the girls presented the first track - “When I Grow Up” - from the new disc, which reached the top position of Billboard Hot Dance Club Play, and also topped the charts in a number of European countries, becoming a hit all over the world. In 2009, the group’s second album was released, which took 4th place on the Billboard 200. But due to subsequent tense relations in Nicole’s team with the rest of the members, everyone except her left The Pussycat Dolls by 2010, of their own accord or being excluded. The new line-up, led by Scherzinger, was introduced in the spring of 2010. However, at the end of 2010, Nicole also left the team, citing the reason for her departure that she could only perform and record material with the previous girls. On this moment The Pussycat Dolls are on a creative hiatus.

(abbreviation PCD) is an American female-fronted pop/R&B dance group founded by choreographer Robin Antin in 1995 as a burlesque dance troupe based in Los Angeles. After gaining national attention, Antin eventually signed with record label Interscope Records in 2003, turning the group into a music franchise. Since then, the group has gained a global image and commercial brand under the leadership of Antin, Interscope and various partners. They appeared on TV reality shows, in Las Vegas shows, and in commercials.

Success for the musical group came in 2005 with their first album PCD, which debuted at number five in the US, releasing three successful singles "Don"t Cha", "Buttons" and "Stickwitu"; the latter earned the group a Grammy nomination. After the departure of Carmit Bachar in March 2008, the group continued as a quintet, and in September of that year they released their second album, Doll Domination, releasing singles such as "When I Grow Up", "I Hate This Part" and "Jai Ho!
