On October 19, 2007, the FBI raided a warehouse in Las Vegas that belonged to Copperfield. During the search, $2 million in cash was allegedly seized, as well as a hard drive and memory card from a security camera system. However, FBI representatives later stated that no money was seized during the search, and the information in the media was untrue. However, it became known from unofficial sources that Copperfield was searched after a resident of Seattle, a certain 22-year-old model, a former Miss Washington, complained of harassment from the magician during his stay at Bahamas. Copperfield's lawyers denied everything. Without waiting for the decision of the prosecutor's office to initiate a criminal case, the model filed a lawsuit herself. The amount of compensation she demanded from Copperfield was not disclosed, but his lawyers called the model’s demands “plain and simple extortion of money.” In 2010, the case against Copperfield was closed after the model filed another similar lawsuit against a certain businessman (also accusing him of harassment), but was caught by the police in a lie.
